The app: troubleshooting, offline mode and notifications

Fix the most common app issues, learn how offline mode works, and manage your notification settings.

4-min read

The School of Play app is free on iOS and Android. It gives you daily play missions, the family game library, and your community feed, all in your pocket.

App not loading or crashing

  1. Force-close and reopen the app. On iPhone, swipe up from the app switcher. On Android, tap the square button and swipe the app away.
  2. Check for an update in the App Store or Google Play. We ship fixes regularly.
  3. Uninstall and reinstall if force-closing doesn't help. Your data is saved to your account, nothing is lost.
  4. Check your iOS/Android version. The app requires iOS 15+ or Android 10+.

Offline mode

The app caches your last 7 days of play missions and the family game library for offline use. Open the app while connected once a day and the cache stays fresh. Offline mode activates automatically when there's no internet, no action required.

Notification settings

In the app tap Profile → Notifications. You can toggle each notification type: daily play reminders, new Staff Room activity, weekly newsletter, and special announcements. You can also set the time for your daily reminder.

Not receiving notifications

  • Check Profile → Notifications in the app, make sure the toggle is on.
  • Check your phone's Settings → Notifications → The School of Play, notifications must be allowed at the system level.
  • If you recently reinstalled, you may need to grant notification permissions again.
